Professor CHEN Bingzhen is a specialist in chemical engineering, especially in process system engineering. She received her B.Sc. degree and Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Moscow University of Chemical Technology after Mendeleev, the former Union States of Soviet Socialist Republic (USSR) in 1959 and 1962, respectively. In a subsequent period of about 45 years she has devoted herself to teaching and research in chemical engineering, particularly in process systems engineering, in successive positions as Lecturer, Associate Professor and Professor (1984) in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Tsinghua University. She was elected a member of Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2005.
She is one of the founding members of the process systems engineering division in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University. Her major research interests include optimal synthesis of total site energy system, development and application of a new parallel hybrid Multi-objective optimization method for the complex industrial chemical processes, bio-fuel supply chain modeling and optimization, chemical process inherent safety, application of wavelet transform theory and artificial intelligence approach and numerical methods to dynamic process modeling, fault diagnosis, data reconciliation and real time optimization. A strategy of developing on-line optimization systems based on combining flow-sheeting simulation and optimization package with artificial neural networks (ANNs) was presented. The process optimization package has been integrated with the developed steady-state data reconciliation approach and
implemented for the real time optimization in the industrial crude distillation plants successfully. For her contributions to the field of process systems engineering, she awarded 2 National and 13 Provincial or Ministerial Awards of Science and Technical Progresses. She is the (co-)author of more than 240 publications since 1985. She is a member of the editorial advisory board of the international journal “Computers & Chemical Engineering” and an Associate editor-in chief of the Journal of “Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering” (international). She has chaired 8th International Symposium on Process Systems Engineering, held in Kunming city of China during Jan. 5-10th 2004.
Dr. CHEN Dingjiang received his B.S. and Ph.D.(Chem.Eng.) at Tsinghua University in 1998 and 2003. He has worked at Center for Industrial Ecology, Dept. of Chem. Eng., Tsinghua University since Oct. 2003 and was promoted as anAssociate Professor in 2009. He focuses on the consulting and research in the fields of industrial ecology, circulareconomy and chemical process system engineering. His current research directions include: (1) Sustainable industrial metabolism; (2) Resource productivity; (3) Analysis, plan and decision approaches for eco-industrial systems.
Professor CHEN Jian received his B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua
University in 1985, 1987 and 1990. He has worked in the department since 1990, becoming a Professor in 2001. His research interests cover chemical engineering thermodynamics and separation processes. Since 1993, separation of greenhouse gas CO2 and sour gas H2S with absorption and adsorption has been main research direction, including molecular design of absorbents, thermodynamics and reaction kinetics, process simulation, energy integration and new capture methods.
Dr. CHEN Zhen received his Bachelor and Master degree from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University in 2005 and 2008. He got his Ph.D. from Hamburg University of Technology, Germany in 2012. He worked as Postdoc in the Institute of Bioprocess and Biosystems Engineering in Hamburg University of Technology from July 2013 until August 2013. Since August 2013, he has become an assistant professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University. His research interests focus on the development and application of industrial biotechnology for the production of natural and non-natural chemicals, metabolic engineering for industrial stain development, systems biology and synthetic biology, protein design. He has published more than 20 papers and applied 4 international patents. He received the“Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-Financed Students in 2011. He also received the graduation honor of “summa cum laude”from Hamburg University of Technology.
Dr. CHENG Yi received his B.Sc. in 1994 and Ph.D. In 2000, both from Chemical Engineering Department in Tsinghua University. In 2002, he received a Foundation for the Author of National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation. He worked in TU Delft (The Netherlands) and then in University of Western Ontario (Canada) for more than four years. Since 2003 he had been working in this department as an associate professor. In 2007, he was promoted as a full professor. Dr. Cheng engages in the area of chemical reaction engineering, employing novel nonintrusive measurement techniques (CT, PIV, LIF etc.) and advanced CFD models (DEM, LBM, etc.) to investigate the hydrodynamics, transport phenomena and reactions in multiphase reacting flows, especially under the extreme conditions like low-temperature plasma and microchannels. The industrial processes involve the clean fuel production, coal pyrolysis in hydrogen plasma, coal to SNG, plasma assisted synthesis of CPVC, CO2 conversion, hydrogen production, and microreactor techniques for functional particle synthesis and chemicals.

Dr Wei Du, associate professor, received her Bachelor degree and Ph.D degree at South China University of Technology in 1997 and 2002 respectively. She has been working as an associate professor at Tsinghua University since December 2006. From August 2009 to July 2010, she worked as a visiting scholar at MIT. In 2011 Dr. Wei Du was honored as one of “the top 10 excellent young scientist at Tsinghua University” and selected to enter the “Program for New Century Excellent Talents of Ministry of Education of China” in 2013. She has been dedicated to the research of biorefinery of renewable resources for bioenergy and bio-based chemicals production. Some achievements have been industrialized with Dr. Wei Du as one of the principle investigators. So far, she has more than 50 academic papers published in SCI indexing journals and the total citation number is more than 1500 times. She got about 30 patents filed with 3 of them already granted in many countries. Currently she is carrying on a number of national research programs.
Professor FEI Weiyang graduated from the Dept. of Engineering Chemistry, Tsinghua University in 1963. He was promoted as a Full Professor in Tsinghua University in 1988 and elected as a Member of Chinese Academy of Science (CAS) in 2003. His main research areas are Separation Science and Technology, especially Solvent Extraction. Based on systematic studies of transport phenomena, modeling and scale-up of separation equipments, he concentrated himself on bridging the gap between fundamental research and industrial application and gained several theoretical and practical achievements. He probed mathematic models of complex separation processes and their intensification approaches, resulting in innovation of several high efficiency packing and devices for solvent extraction and absorption. His creative research works solved many engineering problems and produced significant economic and social benefits. As a results, he awarded 2 National and 15 Provincial or Ministerial Awards of Science and Technical Progresses and 8 patents. He published more than 200 papers. He is very active on the study of Process Intensification, Greenhouse Gas CO2 capture and technical foundation of Circular Economy recent years. He participated in collaborative research at the Schools of Chem. Eng., University of Bradford, UK during Sept. 1981 to Sept. 1983. He participated in collaborative research for 3 months at the University of Melbourne, Australia in 1993 and at the University of Kaiserslautern, Germany in 1997. He is the vice director of Chinese Ecological Economics Society, the fellow of the Chemical Industry & Engineering Society of China (CIESC), the fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry UK, the Editor-in–Chief of Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering (CJChE), Associate Editor-in–Chief of Chemical Engineering Journal (China) and Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering.
Associate Professor GE Jun received his B.Sc. degree in polymer science at Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University in 2004 and his Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering at Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University in 2009. From 2009 to 2012, as a postdoctoral scholar, he worked in Prof. Richard N. Zare’s lab at the Department of Chemistry, Stanford University, U.S.A. He has worked at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University since 2012 and was promoted as an associate professor in the same year. His current research interests include biochemical engineering, industrial enzymatic catalysis, enzyme immobilization and nanobiotechnology. Especially, he focuses on the research of preparation of enzyme catalysts and their applications in enzymatic synthesis of fine chemicals and therapeutic compounds. His research work published in the journals of Nature Nanotechnology, Nano Letters, ACS Nano, and etc. has been highlighted by many journals and magazines including Science, Nature Nanotechnology, The Scientist, Chemical & Engineering News, ACS Nano, Nanomedicine.
Professor GUO Baohua received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in chemical engineering at Dept. of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University. He has worked in the department since 1992, and then was promoted as a Professor in 2004. His current research interests include: 1) Environmental Friendly Polymers; 2) A Study on Preparation of Polymer Scaffold for Tissue Engineering; 3) Fundamental Research on Polymer Condensed State; 4) Reactive Extrusion, Compatibilization of Polymers and Polymer Processing; 5) Polymer Blends and Nanocomposities; 6) New Energy Materals. He was awarded Beijing City Awards for Science and Technology Progress (Second Class) in 2000 and 2003, respectively.
Dr Guo received her B.Sc. in polymer engineering in 1986 from Tianjin University, M.Sc. in 1988 from University of Joseph Fourier (France) and Ph.D. in material science in 1991 from National Polytechnic Institute of Grenoble (INPG), France. Then, she went to the UK, where she worked with Prof. Mckillop, Prof Taylor, Dr Haines and Dr Cammidge on the synthesis of natural compounds and potential drugs. She has worked at Tsinghua University since 2000. Her research interests include polymer nanocomposites, conductive polymer materials, nanofibers, natural biomaterials, materials chemistry, dendrimers, etc.
Prof. HAN Minghan received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Petroleum, China
in 1997. He worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University during Jun. 1997 to Aug. 1999. He has worked in the department since Sep. 1999, and was promoted as a professor in chemical engineering in 2011. He worked as a visiting scholar at the Stuttgart University, Germany from Apr. 2001 to May 2002 and as a Humboldt fellow at Dortmund University, Germany from Jul. 2004 to Jun. 2005, respectively. He teaches Industrial Catalysis and Green Engineering Principles & Applications to the undergraduate. His research specializes in green catalysis and chemical reaction engineering, and his research interests mainly focus on applied catalysis for environmentally friendly, energy- and material-efficient chemical processes.
Dr. HE Yaning received his B.Sc. and Ph.D. in polymer material science at Dept. of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University in July 1998 and January 2003, respectively. He has worked in the department as a lecturer since February 2003. In December 2006, he was promoted as an associate professor in polymer material science. He did JSPS postdoctoral research at The University of Tokyo with Professor Takuzo Aida (2007-2008). His current research centered on polymeric materials including: 1) Photo or electron responsive materials; 2) Interactions between laser and materials; 3) Supramolecular materials.
Professor HU Shanying received Ph.D. (Chem Eng) from the Tsinghua University in 1989. He has been a staff in department of chemical engineering since 1990, became Professor in 2003. Before that he visited at the Denmark Technical University (Denmark) as a visiting scholar and at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UK) as a British Royal Society Research Fellow. H is research interests include industrial ecology, circular economy and process system engineering. More than 60 research projects were finished, and 25 plannedeco-industrial parks were set as national experimental EIPs. More than 300 academic papers were published in international and Chinese journals. Dr. Shanying Hu also won 8 scientific and technology prizes.
Dr. Yanbin Huang received his B.S. degree in Polymer
Materials and Chemical Engineering in1994 from Tsinghua University, and in 1997 a MS degree in Polymer Materials from the same institute. In 2001, he received his PhD degree in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University. Afterwards, he had worked at Kimberly-Clark Corporation (2001-2004) and ALZA Corporation (a Johnson & Johnson Company) (2004-2007). In 2007, he joined Tsinghua as an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering. His research focuses on the drug-polymer systems, including both small molecular drugs and protein/peptide drugs, with the objective of developing new drug delivery technologies and polymer therapeutics. He teaches two courses at Tsinghua: The Chemical Biology of Polymers (for undergraduate students) and Drug Delivery (for graduate students).
Dr. Jiang Guo-qiang received his B.Sc. and Ph. D. in chemical engineering at Dept of Chemical Engineering,
Tsinghua University in 2001 and 2005, respectively. He has worked in the department since 2007 and was promoted as an associate professor in 2008. His research
interests involved drug delivery and air-lift bioreactor. In the field of drug delivery, his current research focused on biodegradable polymeric microparticles for long term controlled drug release, in situ gelling implanted drug delivery system, cell targeting via nanoparticles. In the field of air-lift bioreactor, his research centered on the development of high performance integrated aerobic/ anaerobic biodegradation progress for water treatment and flat photobioreactor for industrial algea culture. Researches in his group have been supported by National Natural Science Foundation, National Key Technology R&D Program and industrial grants. His 10 inventions were patented and 3 inventions have been applied to industry. He won a Science and Technology Progress Award (2010) by the Ministry of Education.
Professor JIN Yong is a specialist in chemical reaction engineering, especially in fluidization reaction engineering.He graduated from Ural Polytechnic College in Svirdelovsk, the former Union States of Soviet Socialist Republic (USSR) in 1959. He then took postgraduate courses in the Department Chemical Engineering, Tianjin University from 1959 to 1961. He worked in University of Science and Technology of China until 1973 when he transferred to Tsinghua University. He is a professor of the Department of Chemical Engineering of Tsinghua University.
He was elected a member of Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1997. He is a founding member of the chemical reaction engineering division in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University. His major research interests are heterogeneous reaction engineering including hydrodynamics, transfer behaviors, reaction kinetics modeling and scale- up in turbulent fluidized bed, circulating fluidized bed, ultrashort contacting down flow fluidized bed, moving bed, fixed bed and three phases circulating fluidized bed; coupling technology in chemical process including reaction-reaction, reaction-separation, reaction-regeneration couplings etc.; environment friendly chemical processes including reducing the heat and wastes discharge, clean alkylation process, avoiding introduction and production of hazardous materials; particles and powder technology including drying, pneumatic transportation, mixing, particle coating and surface modification of fine and ultra-fine powders.
He is a well-known scientist in the field of fluidization reaction engineering. His contribution in this field includes development of new type commercial turbulent fluidized bed catalytic reactor, acrylonitrile vinyl-alcohol manufacture technology, deep catalytic cracking of residual in ultra-short contacting chemical reaction technology, particle and powder granulation, blending, coating drying and pneumatic transportation. He is a member of the advisory board of Chemical Engineering & Technology, standing director of Chinese Society of Particuology (1995- Now). He was a consultant of the Beijing Municipal Government (1988- 1994). He published more than 350 papers in refereed journals and academic meetings. He also obtained 37 patents, wrote and translated 6 books.
Professor KAN Chengyou graduated from Shandong University with a B.Sc. degree and a M.Sc. degree in 1982 and 1987, respectively. He received Ph.D. at the Beijing University of Chemical Technologies in 1999. He worked in Zhengzhou Tobacco Research Institute of CNTC from 1982 to 1984, and in Shandong University from 1987 to 1996. He has worked in the department since 2001 after two-year postdoctoral training at Tsinghua University, becoming full professor in 2006. He worked as a visiting professor at University of Alberta, Canada during 2003 to 2004. His research interests include fine and functional polymer materials, and closely collaborations have been established between his Lab and international/domestic distinguished companies in the field of environmentally friendly polymeric materials these years. His research work focuses emulsion polymerization; polymeric and organicinorganic composite microspheres; waterborne polymer products (coatings, paints, inks, adhesives and etc) and silicone materials. He has published more than 140 articles in academic journals, and gained/applied 16 Chinese and international patents. He has received the second-class award of National Petroleum and Chemical Association for the Science and Technology Progress.
He has been focusing his research on biotransformation and synthesis of plant (licorice) natural products in microbial cell factories, engineering application and reprogramming industrial microorganisms with multiple-stress resistance via constructing Multilevel Defense System (MDS), and microbial control and plant health since 2000. Professor Chun Li has published over 220 peer reviewed papers in ACS Energy Lett, ACS Catal, N C, AIChE J, Chem Eng Sci, Metabolic Eng, ACS Synth Biol, JBC, AEM, CEJ, J PhyChem Lett, Bioresource Technol, Small and so on with over 3000 citations (H-Index 35) as reported in Web of Science. Totally 31 national patents were granted and four projects have been applied and demonstrated in industrial scale in China.
Professor LI Jiding received a BSc. Degree, a M.Sc. degree and his Ph.D. in chemical engineering at Tsinghua University in 1982, in 1985 and in 1987 respectively. After graduated, he joined the department of chemical engineering at Tsinghua University. And then, he was promoted as a professor in 2001. From 1990 to 1993, he worked at the Carl von Ossietzky University Oldenburg (Germany) as a Postdoctoral research follow. His research interests cover membrane separation processes, theory of membrane transport and molecular design of polymer membranes. The current projects include: 1) fundamental research on the membrane separation mechanism and the membrane material prediction in pervaporation and vapor permeation processes; 2) molecular design of polymer membranes using molecular simulation and group contribution method; 3) fundamental research on pervaporation- and vapor permeation based hybrid processes and the development of new process designs.He has published more than 460 papers , hold 38 authorized invention patents, won 6 provincial or ministerial level awards and 1 national award.
Mr. LI received his B.S. and M.S. in Chemical Engineering from Tsinghua University in 1985 and 1988 respectively. He has since worked in the Department of Chemical Engineering, and was promoted to Associate Professor in 1995. Mr.LI also served as a visiting professor at the Department of the Live Science and Technology, University of Tokyo (Japan) in 1997. His research fields are chemical and bimolecular engineering including 1) Kinetics of enzyme catalysis;2) Enzyme immobilization; 3) Fermentation kinetics of industrial microorganisms; 4) Optimization of fermentation process and equipment design; 5) Design and construction of recombination bacteria and genetic engineering; 6) Animal cells culture and antibody preparation. He has published more than 60 papers in leading journals.He served as vice director of Medicine Institute, vice director of Biochemical Engineering & Food Engineering Institution, and deputy party secretary of department council, Tsinghua University. He won the title of Outstanding Young Teacher of Tsinghua University in 2005, and the title of Top Ten Head teacher in 2012. He also lectures degree courses, including Biological Engineering, Cell Culture Engineering (for undergraduate student); Bioreaction Engineering (for graduate student).
Professor Liu got his Bachelor degree and Doctor degree in Tsinghua University in 1986 and in 1991,
respectively. Since 1991, he had spent 8 years at Institute of Process Engineering in Chinese Academy of Science as post doctor, associate professor and full professor (including as visiting scholar at Purdue University, USA from Oct. 1994 to Jul. 1995). From May 1999, he has worked as director of Institute of Applied Chemistry in Dept. of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University. He has been the founder and first director of China-Brazil Center for Climate Change and Energy Technology Innovation since 2010.
His specialized fields are renewable resources and bio-energy engineering, fermentation technology, bioreaction engineering, metabolic engineering, etc. So far, he has published more than 190 papers and filed more than 60 patents, among which more than 40 patents have been granted.
Prof. Zheng Liu obtained his bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees in chemical engineering from Tsinghua University in 1987, 1989 and 1993, respectively. He worked as a UNESCO Research Fellow at Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan, during 1993 to 1994 and has served as a Professor at department of chemical engineering, Tsinghua University since 1998. His recent research focuses on chemical and biomolecular engineering with special interests in protein conformational transition, nanostructured enzyme catalysts, and soil remediation techniques, and has resulted in 150 peer-reviewed journal papers. He has supervised 22PhD students, one of which received the National Best PhD Dissertation Award in 2008. Prof. Liu was awarded as Yangtze River Scholarship Professor of biochemical engineering, Ministry of Education, in 2012.
Dr. LU Diannan received his bachelor’s and doctoral degrees in Chemical Engineering from Tsinghua University in 2000 and 2006, respectively. He worked as postdoctoral researcher in Tsinghua University from 2006 to 2008. Dr. Lu jointed Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University in 2008. In 2011 to 2012, he worked as visiting scholar at Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering in Princeton University. Now Dr. Lu is an Associate Professor and Doctoral Supervisor in the filed of Biochemical Engineering. His research interest is in the field of thermodynamics of complex system, with special interests in 1) Molecular design and chemical synthesis of biocatalysts and its application in industry biocatalysis; 2) Molecular design, modification and delivery of macromolecule drugs; 3) Thermodynamics and transport phenomena of water under nano-confinement; 4) Bioremediation of petroleum- and heavy metalcontaminated soil. Dr. Lu teaches Thermodynamics for undergraduates and Advanced Thermodynamics for graduates. He has published over 50 papers, two reviews, three book chapters, and five patents. Dr. Lu was awarded National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation of PR China in 2008 and Best Presentation Award of APBbioChEC’09 in 2009. He is now selected into Tsinghua 211 project and Importation and Development of High-Caliber Talents Project of Beijing Municipal Institutions.
Dr. Qi Lu is currently an assistant professor of Chemical Engineering at Tsinghua University. Prior to joining Tsinghua, he worked as postdoctoral researcher at Columbia University and the University of Delaware where he received his Ph. D. degree. Dr. Qi Lu's research is focused on renewable energy storage and conversion including carbon dioxide conversion, methane activation and fuel cell. His research efforts have appeared in a number of high impact journals such as Nature Communications, Angewandte Chemie-International Edition, Advanced Materials, etc. and have been highlighted in several popular news outlets such as Science Daily and Chemistry Views. Dr. Qi Lu was selected by Thousand Youth Talent Plan in 2016 and was the winner of many academic award including Fondazione Oronzio and Niccolò De Nora Fellowship in Applied Electrochemistry in 2014 and Daicar-Bata Prizes for Best Research Paper, University of Delaware in 2011.
Dr. LU Yangcheng received his B.Sc. (1998) and Ph.D. (2003) in Chemical Engineering from Tsinghua
University. Since 2003 he works as a faculty here. His research interests are chemical process miniaturization and separation process intensification. His current research includes micro-structured chemical process and coupled chemical processes targeted to clean production of commodity chemicals, flow synthesis of fine chemicals, and controllable preparation of functional materials. He has 80+ SCI-cited publications and 30+ authorized patents. In recognition of applications and impacts of his work in caprolactam and phosphorous chemicals production, he was awarded ‘National Award for Technological Invention’ in 2012 and other six provincial/ministerial level scientific research achievement awards. In 2013, he was elected to Outstanding Young Investigator Award (China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation) and Hou Debang Young Investigator Award (Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China).
After receiving B.S. (2004) and Ph.D. (2009) in chemical engineering from Tsinghua University, China, Yuan Lu received postdoctoral training from Johns Hopkins University (2009-2010) and Stanford University (2010-2014), USA. He was a project researcher from 2014 to 2016 at the University of Tokyo, Japan. Dr. Lu joined the faculty of Chemical Engineering at Tsinghua University in 2016. The central paradigm of Yuan Lu's research is using interdisciplinary approaches in engineering, biology, chemistry, physics, and computer science to manipulate biomolecules and complex biological systems. The main focus lies on developing and applying cutting-edge technologies to engineer nucleic acids, proteins, pathways, and networks for addressing most daunting challenges in human health. Dr. Lu has published 27 high-impact journal papers, 28 conference papers, and 17 patents. He has received more than 20 honors and awards from different academic organizations. His research has been highlighted in more than 30 international leading news outlets.
Professor LUO Guangsheng received his BSc. Degree in applied chemistry and his Ph.D. in chemical engineering at Tsinghua University in 1988 and in 1993 respectively. He worked at Caen University, France as a Postdoctoral Research fellow from 1995 to 1996 and at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA as a visiting scientist from 2001 to 2002. In 2005 he got “National Outstanding Young Scientist Award” from the National Natural Science Foundation of China. In 2009 he was appointed as Chungkung Professor by Ministry of Education of China. Current research interests cover micro-structured chemical systems, separation science and technology, transfer phenomena and functional materials. He has published more than 300 peer reviewed papers. He has won many awards and honors for his contribution to chemical engineering education and research. Professor LUO Guangsheng is now the director of the State Key Lab of Chemical Engineering.
Dr. LUO Guohua received his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in 1996 from the Institute of Coal Chemistry,
Chinese Academy of Sciences. He graduated with a BS in 1985 from Tsinghua University of China. During 1996- 2000, he worked as a post-doctoral at Tsinghua University of China and Gunma University of Japan. Since June 2000, he has been an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering of Tsinghua University (FLOTU). His research interest covered from lab-scale to industrial application on novel solid catalyst design and evaluation, gas-solid fluidized bed reactors for DeNOx process of flue gas, production of fine chemicals and carbon nanotubes, green non-Hg catalyst for VCM synthesis. He has published over 80 peer-reviewed research papers and held over 12 patents. Over 20 graduate students and post-doctoral fellows have worked with him. Together with other colleagues, he received the first prize in 2005 in natural science and the first prize in 2012 in technology invention from the Ministry of Education of China.
Zhiqiang Niu received his B.S. degree from Peking University in 2007 and pursued graduate studies at Tsinghua University under the instruction of Professor Yadong Li. His doctoral research was focused on the design and synthesis of nanomaterials for organic catalysis. Zhiqiang carried out postdoctoral studies with Professor Shoushan Fan at Tsinghua University and then with Professor Peidong Yang at UC Berkeley, respectively. His postdoctoral research was centered on the development of high-performance oxygen reduction catalysts. In the meantime, Zhiqiang also worked in California Research Alliance (CARA) by BASF on transparent conductors. He joined the faculty in the department of chemical engineering at Tsinghua University in June, 2019.
Dr. QIAN Weizhong got his B.Sc. degree in fine chemistry from the Beijing Institute of Technology in 1992. And then, he received his M.Sc and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at Beijing Institute of Clothing Technology in 1999 and at Dept. of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University in 2002, respectively. He has worked in the department since 2002, becoming an Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering in 2005. His research interests cover Nano materials, advanced catalysis and chemical engineering. He awarded ‘Second grade prize of national scientific and technology progress in 2008, ‘First grade (blue ribbon) Natural Science award of Chinese Ministry of Education’ in 2005 and National top 100 Ph.D. theses Award in China’ in 2005.
Dr. QIU Tong received her B.Sc. and Ph.D. in chemical engineering at Department of Chemical Engineering,
Tsinghua University in 1995 and 2000, respectively. In 2004 she was promoted as an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University. Her current research centered on process system engineering including 1) Simulation and optimization of ethylene process; 2) Flare minimization via dynamic simulation; 3) Technical and economic analysis of energy system; 4) Abnormal situation management and process optimization design. These works have harvested about 60 journal publications, and 3 patents, and 6 scientific and technology prizes, and also obtained the supports from 863 project, 973 project and National Key Technology R&D Program.
Professor TANG Liming received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. at Tianjin University, China in 1989 and 1991, respectively, and received his Ph.D. (Polymer Chemistry) from the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Science in 1994. Then He worked as a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University from 1994 to 1996. He has worked in the department since 1996, becoming professor of Polymer Science in 2009. As a visiting researcher, he worked at the University of Hamburg from 1998 to 1999. His research specializes in the field of supramolecular polymers and fine polymers. Work is directed at supramolecular polymers, supramolecular gels, hyperbranched polymers, coatings and adhesives. He has more than 180 journal published papers with about half of them cited by SCI. He teaches Polymer Chemistry and Fine Polymer to the undergraduate.
Dr. TANG Zhigang received his B.Sc. and P.hD. in chemical engineering at Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University in 1993 and 1998, respectively. He has worked in the department since 1998, becoming an Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering in 2000. From 2007, he has been an academic faculty in the State Key Lab of Chemical Engineering (Tsinghua University). He teaches two graduate-oriented courses ”Fundamental in Separation Process” and “Generality of low-carbon process”. His current research interests cover 1) Fundamental and application of identified methods in vapor-liquid mass transfer; 2) Process and equipments in clear and low-carbon industrial production; 3) Trapping CO2 from syngas by hybrid technology.
Dr. TUO Xinlin received his PhD in Polymer Science and Engineering at Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University in 2002, and has worked in the department since then. In 2006 he became associate researcher of Polymer Science and Engineering. His research focuses on high performance polymeric materials and their applications including 1) High-strength and high modulus polymers. Main focus is fixed on the whole process production technology of aromatic polyamide, including polyamide synthesis, solvent recovery and manufacturing of the fiber and porous membrane, which have great applications in many industrial areas. 2) Biomedical materials for artificial nucleus replacement, bone hemostatic agent, joint prosthesis, etc. polyurethane is the representative which is specially designed in chemical structure, synthesized in suitable quantity,characterized with biomedical standard and attempted to used in clinical test. 3) special polymeric materials for Aeronautical applications such as silicone or fluorine containing polymers and polymeric coatings for nuclear waste. Many research projects are carried out on support by national 973 program, NSF of China and joint corporation program. He is also the main speaker of two courses introduction to polymer materials” and “polymer chemistry”.
Dr. Baoguo Wang received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degree of chemical engineering from Tsinghua University in 1987 and 1993, respectively. He obtained his Ph.D. from Tokyo University (Japan) in 2000. As a visiting-fellow, he studied on microfluidics in Harvard University (USA) from July 2007 to Aug 2008. He studied on fuel cell and mass transport mechanism in dense membranes during Apr. 2001 to Sep. 2002 as JST oversea researcher in Tokyo University and Tsinghua University. His current research focuses on new materials for energy conversion and storage, including 1) PVDF nanoporous membrane for flow battery; 2) Vanadium Flow Battery (VFB) and its applications for massive electricity conversion and storage; 3) Zinc/air flow battery related material system.
Professor WANG Jinfu graduated from Tianjin Institute of Light Industry with B. Sc. degree in chemical engineering and technology in 1982. He received Ph.D. (ChemEng) from the University of Paderborn, Germany, in 1994. He has worked in the department since 1995, and was promoted as a professor in 2000. Prior to that he worked at the department of chemical engineering & chemistry, the University of Paderborn as a Postdoctoral research fellow from 1994 to 1995. He teaches <Applied Mathematical Analysis in Chemical Engineering> to the graduate students. His research specializes in the field of chemical reaction engineering and focuses on developing novel reactors and processes for the energy, chemical, biochemical and environmental industries. The research approach is based on the fundamental study on the hydrodynamics and characteristics of mass and heat transfer in the concerned reactors. Another important research approach is modeling and development of chemical reactors and processes. Especially the multiphase system is considered for prior research interests.
Dr. WANG Kai received his B.Sc. and Ph.D. at Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University
in 2005 and 2010. Then he worked as a post doctor at this department from 2010 to 2012. He started his work in the same department as a teacher since 2012 and became an associate professor from 2013. His research concerns the microstructured chemical system, microfluidics and microreacting process. He has received a National Award for Technological Invention 2nd Prize and several provincial & ministerial-level science awards, including Natural Science Award, Technological Invention Award and Progress Award in Science and Technology. His doctoral dissertation was the National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation in 2012 and the Beijing Excellent Doctoral Dissertation in 2011.
Professor WANG Tao received his B.Sc. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University in 1984 and 1989, respectively. He worked as Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands during 1992 to 1993. He has been working in the department since 1994, and then he was promoted as a Professor in 2004. His research specializes in the field of Supercritical Fluid Science and Technology, Clean Chemical Processes, and Nano-structured Materials. Research works are focused on the following aspects: 1) Fundamentals of dissolution, transport and reaction in supercritical fluids. 2) Supercritical carbon dioxide technologies and their applications. 3) Preparation and applications of functionalized ionic liquids. 4) Supercritical carbon dioxide-ionic liquid biphasic reaction/separation technologies. 5) Preparation and applications of nanostructured porous materials. 6) Supercritical water technologies and their applications.
Dr. WANG Tiefeng received his Ph.D. (ChE) from Tsinghua University in 2004. He has worked in the department since 2004, and was promoted to associate professor in 2007. His research focuses on clean energy chemical engineering, multiphase flow reactor and heterogeneous catalysis. He has studied the partial oxidation process and designed the largest-scale reactor for this process. He has developed the CFD-PBM coupled model for gas-liquid flows. He is studying the fluidized bed technology for polysilicon production. He teaches Chemical Reaction Engineering to the undergraduate students and Reactor Theory and Analysis to the undergraduate students. He has published over 100 papers and applied 15 patents. He has been awarded as National Youth Talent Plan (2012), Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University (2012), National Top 100 PhD Award (2006), and Petrochemical Association Sci. & Technol. Advance Award (2013).
Prof. WANG Ting-Jie graduated from Beijing Normal University, and obtained PhD from China University of Mining & Technology in 1993. He has worked in the Department of Chemical Engineering of Tsinghua University since 1993, becoming a professor in 2002. His research interest is particle technology, including particle structure and function design, preparation and dispersion, surface coating & modification, coating granulation, control release, novel granulation, fluidization etc. Researching technology design, process optimization, new reactor and scale up, the particle size is from nms to mms. The current research projects includes fertilizer granulation, multi-component coating granulation, and film coating for control release; film coating and organic modification of titanium dioxide particles; adsorption process and technology; adsorbent and its granulation for water treatment, spherical granulation of wax, the particle display technology through electrophoretic and magnetic-driving; and fundamental research on the particle preparation, surface coating, modification and the function control.
Professor WANG Xiaogong received BSc, MSc and Ph.D at Tsinghua University. In 1984, he became a faculty member and has worked in this department since then. From 1985 to 1986, he worked at Polymer Chemistry Department, Tokyo Institute of Technology (Japan) with Prof. Isao Ando as a visiting scholar. From 1994 to 1997, he worked at the Center for Advanced Materials, University of Massachusetts Lowell (U.S.A.) with Prof. S. K. Tripathy as a postdoctoral fellow. He has taught Polymer Chemistry, Liquid Crystal Polymer, Contemporary Polymer Chemistry, and Advanced Functional Polymers to both undergraduates and graduates for years. His research interest includes polymers with special functionalities such as photoresponsive polymers, nonlinear optical polymers, polymer hydrogels, and liquid crystal polymers as well as selfassembly of polymers, polymer surface modification, polyelectrolyte solution behavior and liquid crystal theory. He is an author or coauthor of over 150 peer-reviewed articles and coinventor of 24 patents.
Professor WANG Xiao-Lin received B.Eng. and M.Eng. in Chemical Engineering from the Nanjing University of Technology in 1983 and 1986, respectively, and D. Eng in Chemical Engineering from The University of Tokyo in 1995. He worked as a research associate at The University of Tokyo from 1995 to 1997, and an associate professor then a professor, the head of Department of Polymer Science and vice dean of School of Material Science and Engineering at the Nanjing University of Technology from 1997 to 2000. Now he serves as a professor of Department of Chemical Engineering and the director of Beijing Key Laboratory for Membrane Materials and Engineering at Tsinghua University. His research specializes in membrane technology and electro- chemical engineering which includes 1) membrane transport mechanism; 2) membrane processes for water treatment; 3) preparation of novel microporous membranes; 4) electrolysis and electrodialysis processes; 5) materials’ electrochemistry.
Dr. WANG Yao received her B.Sc. (ChE) and M.Sc. from Tsinghua University in 1993 and 1996. On the basis of her excellent B.Sc. and M.Sc. records, she was immediately appointed as a teaching assistant in the Department of Chemical Engineering. In 2003, she was promoted to associate professor. In 2004, she received her Ph.D. (ChE) from Tsinghua University. Her research areas are catalysis and reaction engineering. Her recent topics are focused on zeolite catalysis, heterogeneous catalytic reaction kinetics and fluidized bed reactors. She teaches Polymer Reaction Engineering and Catalysis Reaction Engineering. She has established 2 national standards, been granted 8 patents and published more than 70 papers.

Dr. WANG Yujun received his B.Sc. and Ph.D. in chemical engineering at Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University in 1997 and 2001, respectively. After graduation, he began to work in the department, and then he was promoted as an Full Professor in 2012. In 2009.10-2010.10, he visited MIT as a visiting scholar. His research interests cover 1) Preparation of nanomaterials including CaCO3, precipitated SiO2 by using a microreactor; 2) preparation and application of mesoporous materials; 3) Membrane Separation Process and Membrane Reactor; Currently, Dr. Wang is engaging in several national research projects, such as National Natural Science Foundation of China and the State Key Development Program for Basic Research of China. He got the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University in 2011 and received the National Award for Technological Invention (the second-class) in 2012.
Professor WANG Yundong received Ph.D. (Chem Eng) from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UK) in 1991. He has worked in the department since 1994, becoming Professor of Chemical Engineering in 2002. Prior to that he worked at Petrochemical Research Institute, Heilongjiang Academy of Sciences as a Research Assistant and at the Department of Chemical Engineering, the University of Bath, England as a Posdoctoral Research Officer and Research Officer. His research specializes in the field of chemical engineering. Work is directed at fluid flow stirred reactors and separation columns via advanced measuring techniques and computational fluid dynamic (CFD) modelling. Current research projects involve design modelling, optimisation and process intensification of novel extraction equipment for rare earth metals separation. He is a member of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), UK. He is also a fellow member of Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China (CIESC).
Professor Wei Fei, the director of Beijing Key Laboratory of Green Chemical Reaction Engineering & Technology at Tsinghua University, he is the vice president of Chinese Society of Particuology. Professor WEI Fei received his B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. at the University of Petroleum, China in 1984, 1987 and 1990, respectively. As a visiting professor, he worked at the Ohio State University (USA), the University of Western Ontario (Canada) respectively. He current research projects include carbon nanotube mass production, downer reactor, multistage turbulent fluidized bed, coal to chemical processes. A full range of theoretical to practical applications is studied in problems as varied as the gas solids flow structure of gas-solid turbulent flow, carbon nanotube production, nano powder characterization and flow, optimum design of catalytic fluidized bed reactors. He awarded ‘Cheung Kong Scholar Award’ in 1999 ‘Chinese Young Science and Technology Award’ in 1998 and ‘National Outstanding Young Scientist Award’ in 1997. He has more than 500 journal published papers and has experience of successfully design more than 30 industrial fluidized bed reactors.
Dr.XIANG Lan received her Ph.D. degree at Institute of Chemical Metallurgy, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1992 and worked there until 1994. She worked as a visiting scholar at the Kochi University, Shikoku National Industrial Research Institute and Hongkang Baptist University in 95- 98. She became a professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University in 2008. Her research interests include the dispersion and controllable growth of nano-particles, powder and hydrothermal technologies, and fabrication of composite, focusing mainly on the effective utilization of the rich inorganic minerals as Ca, Mg, Zn and Al, etc. and some of the technologies have been used in industries in China. She has published more than 80 SCI. papers in journals as Crystal Growth and Design, Cryst Eng Comm, Langmuir, etc. and got 14 authorized patents. She has acted twice as the vice chairman and given 10 invited speeches in international conferences. As one of the academic leaders in inorganic chemical engineering in China, she has been awarded 2 prizes of Science and Technology by CPCIA and finished 2 projects authenticated by the province and ministry in China.
Professor Xu-Ming XIE graduated with B. Eng from Shinshu University, Japan in 1985. He received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Dept. of Organic and Polymeric Materials, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan in 1987 and 1990, respectively. From 1990 to 1992, he worked as a research scientist at Kawasaki Plastics Laboratory, Showa Denko, Ltd. (Japan). He has worked at Tsinghua University since 1992, and has been a professor since 1999. His current research areas cover: 1) Structure control and properties of multi-polymer systems. 2) Confined crystallization and phase separation of polymer systems. 3) Polymer assisted assembly of low-dimensional nanomaterials and its nanocomposites 4) Polymer grafting and modification. 5) Polymer gels and Super absorbent polymers. He awarded JSPS Visiting Professor Fellowship in 1999 and Georgy. T. Piercy Distinguished Visiting Professor award from Dept. of Chemical Engineering & Materials, University of Minnesota (USA) in 2002. He was also invited as a visiting professor in Chuo University, Japan in 2005. In 2007 He obtained the first “Feng Xinde Polymer Prize” from ELSEVIER. He has over 180 publications in peer-reviewed journals, and 16 patents. He is editorial board member of “Chinese Chemical letters”, “Acta Polymerica Sinica”, “Journal of Functional Polymers” and “China Plastics”.
Prof. XING Xin-Hui received his B.S. (Chemistry) from South China University of Technology in 1985, M.S. (Applied Chemistry) from Ustsunomiya University (Japan) in 1989 and Ph.D. (ChemEng) from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1992. He had been Assistant Professor at School of Bioscience and Biotechnology, Tokyo Institute of Technology, from 1992 to 1998, and Lecturer and Associate Professor at Department of Material Science and Chemical Engineering, Yokohama National University from 1998 to 2001. He was selected as a full professor by the 100-Telent Scholar Program of Tsinghua University in 2000 and joined department of Chemical Engineering since then. He was appointed as the director of Institute of Biochemical Engineering in 2002. Currently he is the vice chairman of Depatment of Chemical Engineering. His research field covers biochemical engineering, environmental biotechnology, bioenergy, enzyme engineering and microbial evolution. He is the member of Division of Biochemical Engineering, Chinese Society of Chemical Engineering; Member of Division of Enzyme Engineering, Chinese Society of Microbiology; and Member of Chinese Society of Ecology. He serves as the associate editor of Biochemical Engineering Journal, and editorial board of several domestic and international journals.
Associate Professor XU Jianhong received his B.Sc. and Ph.D. at Tsinghua University in 2002 and 2007 respectively. He continued his research in Tsinghua University as a postdoctor after graduation. He finished the postdoctoral program in May 2009, and became a formal faculty of the Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University. At present, his research areas are focusing on the microstructured chemical systems and functional microscale materials. He has more than 100 journal published papers. He was awarded the National/ Provincial Science & Technology Awards for five times as one of the main achievers. His Ph.D thesis was elected as the National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation of China in 2009. He got the “Excellent Young Scientists Fund” from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) in 2013
Dr. XU Jun is now an associate professor in Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University. He received his B.Sc. and Ph.D. at Dept of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University in 1997 and 2002, respectively. In 2011, he was awarded the Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship for Experienced Researchers to carry out the collaboration research in Prof. Günter Reiter’s group in University of Freiburg, Germany. He teaches Polymer Processing and Applications, Experiments on Polymer Physics and Experiments on polymer processing to the undergraduates. His research interests are in the field of polymer crystallization, biodegradable polymers and structure-property of polymeric materials, including basic research on polymer crystallization, synthesis, characterization and processing of biodegradable plastics, bio-inspired materials and polymers for energy, etc. He was awarded 2003 Beijing City Awards for Science and Technology Progress (Second Class), 2009 China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association Award for Science and Technology Progress (Second Class), 2010 China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association Award for Science and Technology Progress (Second Class), Feng Xingde Polymer Prize (for winning "The Best Paper Nomination from China" published in the journal of Polymer in 2011), respectively. In 2012, he was supported by the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University.
Dr. Li-Tang Yan received Ph.D from Tsinghua University in 2007. Then he went to University of Bayreuth, Germany as a Humboldt Research Fellowship supported by Alexander von Humboldt foundation. From Jan. 2010, he joined the group of Prof. Anna Balazs as a post doctoral fellowship in the University of Pittsburgh, USA. Since May 2011, he became an associate professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Tsinghua University. Dr. Yan’s research focuses on the application of multiscale simulation in the structure, self-assembly, property and transport for various soft matter systems. He has published about 50 peer-reviewed papers in the journals like Prog. Polym. Sci., ACS Nano, Biomaterials, Macromolecules.
Dr. YANG Rui received her Ph.D. in polymer materials at Tsinghua University in 2005. She has worked in the
Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University since 1996 and became an associate professor of polymer materials in 2004. From 2008.4 to 2009.3, she worked at School of Chemical Engineering and Advanced Materials, Newcastle University as a visiting scholar. Her research interests include: 1) Aging behavior, mechanism and stability of polymer materials and lifetime prediction; 2) Functional phase change material (PCM) and 3) Structureproperty relationship of polymer materials. She is financially supported by National Key Technology R&D Program, NSFC, Ministry of Education, etc. and has close collaboration with international and domestic companies. She has published over 70 peer-reviewed papers and 11 patents. She was awarded the Second Prize of Natural Science Award of Ministry of Education of China in 2005, and the Second Prize of Science and Technology Progress Awards of Beijing in 1999.
Professor YU received her Ph.D. at Dept. of Chem. Eng., Tsinghua University in 2001. She was promoted as a professor in 2012. Her research mainly focuses on Industrial biocatalysis and Bio-nanotechnology. Current efforts especially emphasize to 1) evolve new/improved biocatalysts by protein/cell engineering and applied bioinformatics; 2) develop efficient bioprocess; and 3) fabricate metal nanoparticles via biotemplate and apply the bio-nano couples in different fields. She achieved the honor of National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation in 2003. In 2004, she won the Hua-xin Distinguished Scientist Scholarship of Tsinghua and gained the opportunity to take her advanced research in MIT, USA as a visiting scholar. In 2007, she won the honor of “Beijing new star in Science and Technology”. In 2008, she was selected into the “Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University”. In 2010 and 2013, she achieved the award of “Outstanding Contribution in Science and Technology” and “Award for Technological Invention (second prize)”, respectively, of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association. Professor YU Yangxin received his B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. in chemical engineering at Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University in 1988, 1991 and 2005, respectively. He has been working at the department since 1991, becoming Professor of Chemical Engineering in 2005. From April 1, 2001 to September 30, 2002, he worked as a visiting associate researcher at University of California, Riverside. He teaches Computer Simulation of Fluids and Advanced Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics to the graduate students. His research focuses on the theor ies and exper iments of chemical engineer ing thermodynamics and their applications. Currently he develops density functional theory and molecular simulation method, and applies them to the inter-phase structure and tension, adsorption in pores, phase equilibria in confined space, structure of electric double layer as well as the thermodynamic properties of colloidal and biomacromolecular solutions. He also develops advanced techniques for the comprehensive utilization of the energy and substances in the industrial waste gases.
Professor YU Lixin received his B.Sc, M.Sc and Ph.D. in chemical engineering at Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University in 1989, 1991 and 1995, respectively. He has been working in the department since 1995,becoming a professor of chemical engineering in 2003. He engaged in research of membrane separation as a visiting scientist at Exxon Research and Engineering Company in the United States during Jan. 1997 to Jan 1998. He teaches Principles of Chemical Engineering (Beijing City Excellent Course) and Chemical Engineering Design for undergraduate students. He has written and translated several textbooks. He has got Beijing City Higher Education Award (2004, 2013, Second Class) and National Education Award (2009, First Class). He is now a member of Chemical Engineering Teaching Advisory Board of Ministry of Education of China. His research interests focus on fundamentals and application of separation, mainly bipolar membrane electrodialysis and coupling of pervaporation and reaction. He has published more than 100 papers and got Beijing City Award for Science and Technology Progress (1998, First Class).
Dr. Zhihong Yuan will join the Department of Chemical Engineering at Tsinghua University as an assistant professor in September 2016. Prior to joining Tsinghua, he has worked as postdoctoral researcher at Carnegie Mellon University and Auburn University, subsequently. Promoted by smart manufacturing and clean energy manufacturing, Dr. Zhihong Yuan's research is concentrated on process/energy systems engineering including big data driven modeling, system design and synthesis, optimal control and operation, and robust optimization/stochastic programming under uncertainty. As a first-author/corresponding author, Dr Zhihong Yuan has published more than 15 papers in many high impact international journals such as three flagship journals in traditional chemical engineering including AIChE Journal, Chemical Engineering Science, and Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research. Till now, one of his papers has been featured on the cover of AIChE Journal; one paper has been selected as the ACS Editors' Choice Paper. Dr. Zhihong Yuan was also the winner of many academic awards such as most downloaded paper of Computers & Chemical Engineering (2013) and outstanding reviewer of Computers & Chemical Engineering (2015).
Dr. ZHNAG Chong received his B.Sc. and Ph.D. in chemical engineering at Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University in 2002 and 2008, respectively. In 2011, he was promoted as an Associate Professor at the Dept. of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University. His research interests are synthetic microbial cell factories. By using emerging technologies in the fields of synthetic biology, informatics biology and system biology, he aims at (1) inventing novel biological parts (biosensors, dynamic control regulators, microbial evolution devices etc.); (2) constructing synthetic pathways in microbial cell factories; and (3) application of above parts and pathways in developing novel routs for the production of bio-based chemicals, bio-energy, and natural products.
Dr. ZHANG Minlian received her B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. in polymer engineering, polymer material, and biochemical engineering at School of Chemical Engineering, Tianjin University in 1995, 1998 and2001, respectively. She worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Dept of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University during Sep.,2001 to Sep. 2003. In 2005 she was promoted as an associate professor at the Dept of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University. Her current research centered on bioanalysis and bioseparation including lipids analysis, monolith chromatographic media and separation of biological macromolecules separation.
Qiang Zhang graduated in 2004 from the Chemical Engineering Department, Tsinghua University (China), where he continued doing research on mass production of carbon nanotubes and obtained his PhD in chemical engineering in 2009. After a short stay as a Research Associate in Case Western Reserve University (USA) in 2009, he joined the Fritz Haber Institute of the Max Planck Society (Germany) as a post-doctoral fellow. He was appointed an associate professor of chemical engineering of Tsinghua University in 2011. He has authored and coauthored over 100 refereed publications. His current research interests are nanocarbon, advanced functional materials, sustainable chemical engineering, energy conversion and storage.

Professor Zhao Jinsong received his PhD from Tsinghua University in 1997. He has worked as full professor in the department of chemical engineering at Tsinghua University since April, 2008. Prior to that he worked at Beijing University of Chemical Technology as full professor from 2005 to 2008 and at Applied Extrusion Technology (AET) Incorporation (U.S.A.) as senior MES Engineer from 2001 to2005. Before he joined AET, he was a senior consulting engineer at Day & Zimmermann International Corporation (U.S.A.) and Postdoctoral Research Associate at Purdue University from 1997 to 2001. His current research interests include chemical process systems safety and emergency response, safety management of chemical parks, energy systems synthesis and optimization, manufacturing execution systems and applications of artificial intelligence (AI).
Dr. Xuebing ZHAO obtained his B.En and doctorate in June 2004 and 2009 respectively, and continued his Postdoctoral work in Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University. He became an Assistant Professor in the same department in July 2011. His current research topics focus on the biorefining of lignocellulosic biomass to produce biofuels and chemicals via chemical and biological approaches, especially on biomass recalcitrance and its molecular mechanism, process development and fundamentals of biomass pretreatment, enzymatic saccharification of cellulosic substrates with corresponding process intensifications and process simulation, optimization and economic evaluation. He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed papers in international journals. He has been invited to be a referee to peer-review manuscripts for more than 40 international Journals. He also has been invited to be the Editor-in-Chief for Journal of Enzyme Research, a Guest Editor for BioEnergy Research.
Dr. Bing Zhu is currently a professor at Center for Industrial Ecology, Department of Chemical Engineering, Tsinghua University. He graduated from Tsinghua with B.E. and M.E. degrees in Chemical Engineering in 1990 and 1995, respectively, and received his doctoral degree in Industrial Engineering and Management in 2000 from Tokyo Institute of Technology. He joined Department of Chemical Engineering of Tsinghua as a faculty member since 1995. He has been also a visiting research scholar at Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2000 and a research scholar at International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA, Vienna) in 2001-2002. Now he is also the executive deputy director of Institute of Circular Economy, Tsinghua University and guest research scholar at IIASA’s Energy Program. His research interests include chemical and energy techno-economics, process systems engineering, material flow analysis and resource productivity research. Dr. Zhu is active in professional services such as vice chair of Chemical Techno-Economics Committee of Chinese Technology Economics Society, vice chair of Circular Economy Committee and steering member of Industrial Ecological Economics and Technology Committee of Chinese Ecological Economics Society, member of Economics Committee of Chinese Petroleum Society, member of Technical Committee of Optimal Control of International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) and editorial board members of international journal "Technology in Society," and Chinese Journals "Chemical Industry" and "Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction in Petroleum and Petrochemical Industry."
