Professor Wang Xiaogong received his BSc, MSc and Ph.D. in Tsinghua University. Since he became a faculty member in 1984, he has worked in this department for over 30 years. During this period, he temporarily stayed at Polymer Chemistry Department, Tokyo Institute of Technology (Japan) with Prof. Isao Ando as a UNESCO graduate student from 1985 to 1986. He also worked at the Center for Advanced Materials, University of Massachusetts Lowell (U.S.A.) with Prof. S. K. Tripathy as a visiting scientist and postdoctoral fellow from 1994 to 1997. His current research interest includes polymers with special functionalities such as photoresponsive polymers, nonlinear optical polymers, polymer hydrogels, and liquid crystal polymers as well as self-assembly of polymers, polymer surface modification, polyelectrolyte solution behavior and liquid crystalline polymer theory. He is an author or a coauthor of over 250 peer-reviewed articles and a co-inventor of over 30 patents. He has given several lecture courses including Polymer Chemistry, Liquid Crystal Polymer, Contemporary Polymer Chemistry, and Advanced Functional Polymers to both undergraduates and graduates for many years.
