汉族,1939年生于上海。
1963年毕业于清华大学工程化学系后留校工作,
1981-1983年曾到英国Bradford大学化工系进修,
1988年任清华大学教授,
2003年当选为中国科学院院士。 曾
任国家重点化学工程联合实验室副主任等职。

  费维扬教授长期从事化工分离科学和技术的研究和教学工作,学风严谨,教书育人。针对能源、资源和环保等领域国民经济建设的迫切需要,在萃取、吸收和精馏等传质分离设备的数学模型、设计放大和性能强化以及稳定轻同位素分离等方面进行了系统的研究。例如采用计算流体力学(CFD)模拟与先进测试技术(如LDV和DPIV等)相结合的方法,深入研究液-液两相流的传递现象并对一些化工难题进行故障诊断,提出了多种改进分离设备性能的有效途径,推动了过程强化和国外引进技术的消化、吸收和再创新。近年来,面对全球气候变化的严峻挑战,开展了CO2捕集新技术的研究。研究成果曾获国家科技发明奖、国家科技进步奖和国家专利创造发明金奖各一项,国际奖3项、省(部)级科技进步奖十六项,发明专利十四项。获奖项目的年经济效益逾亿元。发表论文250余篇。指导了30余名博士生和硕士生。参加编写的主要著作和手册有《液-液萃取过程和设备》,《溶剂萃取手册》,《石油化工设计手册》和《中国大百科全书·化工卷》等。

  现任中国生态经济学会副理事长、中国生态经济学会循环经济专业委员会主任、中国化工协会理事、英国皇家化学会理事、《中国化学工程学报(CJChE)》主编、《化学进展》、《Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering》和《化学工程》等期刊的副主编。
