RESEARCH Areas

-          Preparation of Nanoparticles with a microreactor

A novel membrane dispersion contactor was developed to prepare the nanoparticles by improving the mixing of two fluids. Through adjusting the supersaturation ratio, we can get various nanoparticles with different morphology and diameter. We have obtained nanoparticles of CaCO3, SiO2, Al2O3, ZnO et al. through the precipitation technique in a specially designed microreactor. The technique has been successfully applied in the industrial preparation of calcium carbonate nanoparticles, with annual output of 10,000 tons.

-          Separation Science & Materials: Mesoporous materials preparation and application

By adjusting the cellular size and structure through the so-gel process, mesoporous materials were prepared with surface area of 1,000 m2/g and pore size of about 10 nm. This material is useful for lipase immobilization for the chiral resolution. It can also been used for removal of sulfur compounds from diesel.

-          Membrane Separation & Enzymatic Membrane Reactor

Composite membrane with novel structure was prepared via phase inversion process. It is used for immobilization of lipase for chiral ibupron resolution. Another application of it is to make hollow fiber membrane contactor to remove organic compounds from waste water.
