      DRUG DELIVERY & BIOMATERIAL  | more infomation |  
      Current research focused on biodegradable polymeric microparticles for long term controlled drug release, in situ gelling implanted drug delivery system, cell targeting via nanoparticles. The objective of our study on long term controlled microparticle is to explore the relationship and interaction between the drug release and the microstructure as well as the degradation of the microparticles, so as to propose the approaches to modulate drug release rate. Our study on implanted drug delivery system focuses on the development of in situ gelling system based on reverse-thermosensitive polymers. The formulation is solution at room temperature which could be administrated by injection, and becomes semi-solid gel and control the drug release at the body temperature. Our study on cell targeted nanoparticles is concentrated on three aspects: receptor-mediated cell uptake and intracellular transport, nanoparticle penetration in the tumor and nanoparticle material.  
      MULTIPHASE BIOREACTOR  | more infomation |  
      Current research centered on the development of integrated aerobic/anaerobic biodegradation progress for water treatment and flat photobioreactor for industrial algae culture. We developed the multi-stage air-lift loop reactor (MALR) which shows more advantages than air-lift loop reactor and bubble column. The MALR has been successfully applied to the treatment of industrial wastewater from petrochemical plant, oil recovery and dyeing plant. Based on MALR, we developed flat photobioreactor which shows high light availability and affords high cell concentration culture.

      PRINCIPLES OF CHEMICAL ENGINEERING  
     
    Principles of Chemical Engineering is the core course for undergraduate students majoring chemical engineering.
    Content: General principles of separation by equilibrium processes. Staged cascades. Pricinples, unit operations and equipments of seperarion process, including distillation, absorption, extration and drying. Design and calculate the key parameters of the process and equipment. Problem solving methodology involving the equilibrium stage, stage efficiency, staged cascades, number of transfer units (NTU) and height of a transfer unit (HTU).
    Learning Objectives (LO) : Make mass and energy balances around a separation praocess; Understand the phase equilibria and apply it to separation praocess; Apply mass transfer rate equations to separation praocess; Use the concept of equilibrium stage and stage efficiency to determine a separation equipment; Use number of transfer units (NTU) to determine the separation process and equipment; Understand the concept of backmixing; Master the staged cascades methods; Understand and caculate the minimum solvent/absorbent flow rate and minimum reflux ratio; Master the systematic approach preliminarily; Preliminary considerations for technical economy.

      Contents of the course involved the development of new pharmaceutical products, engineering technology to enlarge and design the pharmaceutical process, unit operations, product packaging and quality control.
